Equipment starting to show the strain
I’ve done about a month’s worth of kayaking with the Hobie Adventure Island. The boat is holding up pretty well but yesterday I broke one of the plastic covers on the bracket that holds the drive, the clip that holds my mast line is broken and I managed to puncture the foam filled little cart wheel.
Other than that, my sleeping bag’s material is starting to disintegrate, my main dry bag hatch gave out. Basically every piece of camping and kayaking equipment shows that they were not meant for expeditions. Fortunately, I’m alway close to gear sources but I would really think about taking this sort of crap on a remote expedition.
Ha! So true you get what you pay for. North Face for example has a line for fashionable people, but stinks. Then they have the stuff you take up to Everest and back. You forget what you are doing is an amazing expedition.
I don’t have the budget to get the expedition stuff. I’m thinking of starting a camping equipment design company. There is so much crap out there and the solutions are so easy to see.
